Buying Internship at SIRPLUS
Securing an internship at SIRPLUS was a great achievement for me, showing that not only am I employable but also keen to learn about the fashion industry.
During my time there as a buying and studio intern and a sales assistant I gained many new skills and became familiar with the buying & merchandising processes, which will all translate well into my future career aspirations, such as;
- Financial Planning
- Supplier Relations
- Data Analysis
- Improving my Excel Skills
- Range Planning
- Teamwork & Communication Skills
- Critical Path & Supply Chain Management
- Improved Knowledge in Tailoring, Colour Palettes, Fabric, Trim and Sustainability
Additionally, with my previous experience in hospitality, I felt I already had the people skills required for a Sales Assistant role. Being one of the top sales people for many weeks proved this to be true!
Because of my background in Design and my experience with Adobe Illustrator I was trusted with designing many of their basic and core items when I joined, such as waistcoats and accessories. And as I progressed within the internship and showcased my skills, I was trusted with more complex and creative pieces. For example, I was involved in the design process for a limited edition collaboration we did with Tom Buckden's Epoca Blu, where we created patchwork short sleeve shirts which all sold out!
Another limited edition collaboration I was involved with was with a flower shop in London, and the owner wanted a functional yet stylish gilet and jacket to work in. I came up with a number of designs with waterproof materials and functional pockets and straps for his equipment. Two of my designs were chosen and put into production!
